Battery storage

Battery storage alongside solar

A battery stores electricity your panels generate so it can be used later, rather than exported straight away.

What a battery does

Solar panels generate during daylight hours, which may not match when your household uses the most electricity. Battery storage can store some of that generated electricity for later use, for example during the evening.

When it may suit a household

  • Your electricity use is concentrated in the evening.
  • Your system is likely to generate more during the day than you use at the time.
  • You want more of your generated electricity to be used at home rather than exported.

Whether a battery makes sense for you depends on your home, your usage pattern, the system design and the cost. A selected installation partner can talk this through at a consultation.

Battery-only enquiries

The Solar Sidekick service covers solar panels, with battery storage as an option alongside them. We do not take battery-only enquiries. If you already have solar panels, you can tell us during the check whether you would like to add to that system.
